Blinds – Ultimate Buying Guide
So you want to buy some blinds for your windows. There are a huge variety of blinds, with the most common form of blinds being the Venetian blinds. You need to decide based on the design of the blinds and your personal preference.
Probably the first question you want to ask yourself is whether or not you’d be happy to just get some Venetian blinds. The color works well, the look is authentic and the style is both modern and retro.
Vertical Blinds vs. Horizontal Blinds
If you’re reading this, you probably aren’t looking for standard blinds, so let’s tackle what kinds of blinds there are.Vertical blinds are those long blinds that close horizontally and are suitable for doorways or windows which are room height. They’re simple and they don’t look too bad. They are nice and typical and add to the flavor of the room. They are faster to operate than horizontal blinds and don’t get as dirty. But they do suffer damage more easily, so be careful with them.
Roller blinds roll up rather than fold towards each other. The material is generally fabric or wood, which can be stylish depending on your tastes. The disadvantage of roller blinds is that they can be annoying to roll up, and the style isn’t really popular due to the roll looking bulky. If you compare them with curtains, you wouldn’t roll your curtains; you would draw them to fold.
Then there are blackout blinds. Blackout blinds are simply like pulling a map down, except in the shape of a window. It is a fast and convenient way of covering all the light. But there is a disadvantage, because you can’t pull it all the way down without it taking away all the light. Not only that, but it’s just a solid cover which doesn’t look like blinds at all. Other than that, it’s very effective in blocking out light, and it has a modern look.
Wooden blinds are nice and elegant. Unlike Venetian blinds, they cannot be bent, which means they will not break easily. The colour scheme generally compliments the room very well and creates a modern and relaxed feel to the room. Flexibility is a bit more restrained than Venetian blinds, which are made of metal and are thinner. Otherwise, wood blinds are nice and ideal for small, medium and large windows. I wouldn’t recommend them for very large windows though.
Your best bet is probably to stick to the one that suits your house more and the one that makes you feel good about them. Remember that they will be there to look at constantly, so choose very wisely. If you can’t decide, there are always curtains.
