Forklifts – Ultimate Guide

A forklift is a vital tool in lifting and transporting large objects. If you need to use one or maintain one, it’s a pretty easy process. There are a large range of forklifts available, so you might want to go to your local forklift retailer and have a look. Or just go on a forklift retailer website. The good thing about forklifts is that you can just hire one, rather than needing to buy one. But if you ever need to buy one, look for forklift sales.

Some of the main forklifts, for forklift rental or purchase, include warehousing forklifts; counterbalance trucks and big trucks. The difference is, of course, the strength of the forklifts. A warehousing forklift will cater for basic heavy lifting and it will be useful for lifting small crates, tables, and anything that doesn’t exceed the load of the forklift. They can carry somewhere between 1000kg and 2000kg of weight, depending on the forklift. Counterbalance trucks can carry several tonnes, some up to 7,000kg of weight. Big trucks can carry loads in the tens of tonnes, some up to 30,000kg of weight.

An important feature of a forklift is its battery life. When getting a forklift to use, make sure it has the battery life that you need it for, or you may need to charge it more frequently than a longer lasting battery. Forklift batteries are like car batteries though, which means that they will last a considerable amount of time, despite having to do a lot of work. You might also want to buy a forklift battery charger as well.

So, you have chosen your forklift and you have its power source sorted out. Now, you need to find a suitable attachment. Forklift attachments are very vast. The main one is the simple two forks at the front, which lifts things by injecting into the holes and lifting the object like that. Then there are more complicated attachments such as sideshifters, rotators, man baskets, scales, pole attachments and much more. If you think you need more than just the standard fork lifting, you can look up forklift attachments or enquire about them.

You also have to have some good forklift tires. Don’t settle for bad tires, because it means higher maintenance and you may need the forklift to be able to handle rugged terrain. Make sure you have spares and make sure the tires belong to the forklift you want to use.
